Michael currently leads Rutgers’ theater design program at Shakespeare’s Globe. MFA and BFA Third year set design, costume design, costume tech and lighting design students are resident at the Globe for three months and are immersed in everything both London’s theatre heritage and contemporary scene has to offer whilst undertaking a series of challenging design projects with Michael and guest artists.

 

Michael has led both the BA Theatre Design, MA Theatre Design and MA Drawing courses at Wimbledon College of Art over a period of many years.

AWARD WINNERS: Michael has nurtured a high number of prize winning students as a tutor and course leader including no fewer than twelve Linbury Prize for Stage Design finalists and a further four winners including two overall winners: Becs Andrews and Hyemi Shin. Jerwood Drawing Prize winner Alison Carlier was also Michael’s student when he led the MA Drawing course at Wimbledon.

He was also a Reader in Theatre Design/Scenography at the University of the Arts London and continues to connect his teaching work to his professional practice through workshops, talks and seminars.

He supervises at doctoral level.

 

External Examining

Michael was External Examiner of the MA (Scenography) Dance at Laban from 2005-10, MA Scenography at Central School of Speech and Drama from 2010-14 and the BA (Hons) Lighting Design course at Rose Bruford College from 2015-19.

Michael is currently the External Examiner for BA Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
