Propelling Edward III: Research in Action

March 23rd, 2015

Propelling Edward III: Research in Action was a two-day symposium directed by Michael Pavelka that took place on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st January 2015 in the theatre space at Wimbledon College of Arts.

The symposium explored Shakespeare’s Edward III through theatre practice and debate, and opened with Edward Hall (Artistic Director of the Propeller Theatre Company), Michael Pavelka (then MA Theatre Design Course Director and Propeller’s designer) and Roger Warren (Propeller’s text editor) rehearsing the opening scene of the play with actors from the Propeller Theatre Company.

The event continued with selected scene rehearsals interwoven with speakers including Professor Jean Howard (Columbia University, NY), Peter Kirwan (Nottingham University), Lucy Cullingford (University of Warwick), David Lindley (Leeds University) and Paul Allen (presenter of BBC Radio’s Night Waves).

The symposium was expertly led by Professor Carol Rutter with additional hosting by Dr Andy Kesson who facilitated a debate between the delegates, Edward Hall and the Propeller actors.
